JFFF Thanks Sponsors of Fifth Fern Forest Camp

Sandals Foundation, Jamaica Broilers and CB Chicken make major contribution to Fern Forest Camp


Contributions in cash and kind from major sponsors Sandals Foundation and other sponsors CB Chicken, Jamaica Broilers and Sharon Gordon -Smith a Jamaican residing in the U.S., enabled nearly 70 children from Fern Gully and its environs in St Ann to attend the Jamaica Fern Forest Foundation’s (JFFF) fifth annual outreach enviro-Christian camp from July 30 to August 3, 2018 .


Daily, the youngsters aged 7-18 were transported from Shaw Park, Ocho Rios, Lime Bottom, Colgate, Breadnut Hill and Harrison Town to the campsite in the heart of the Fern Gully rainforest for 6 hours of activities centred on the theme ‘I believe I can Fly’. With Isaiah 40:31 as the guiding scripture, campers were given tools to soar above life’s challenges during empowerment talks which started each day, and this was reinforced during the daily art and craft, environmental , healthy lifestyle and personal development activities and games which fol- lowed .


Invited speakers included Nordia Hamilton, Botanist and Education Officer at Parks Division of the Ministry of Industry Commerce Agriculture and Fisheries; Leon Barnaby, a TPDCO trained tour guide who led a bird-watching expedition and Healthy Lifestyle Specialist Donnette Wynter. An added component to this year’s activities was an Art Appreciation session during which the youngsters were treated to an Art Exhibition featuring work from Haiti, Africa and uprising young inner city Jamaican artist Dwayne Braithwaite who also gave a motivational talk.
